Docker is an open-source project to easily create lightweight, portable, self-sufficient containers from any application. The same container that a developer builds and tests on a laptop can run at scale, in production, on VMs, bare metal, OpenStack clusters, public clouds and more. – docker.io

Developers are key to any business invested into technology. They are the heart and soul of getting the product off the ground. However traditionally, systems are kept up by admininistrators and ops people. Good developers write code that’s useful for production and great developers are able to reproduce the production infrastructure in development.

As a newcomer to Docker, one can simply think about this piece of technology as being a lightweight VM that is cheap to create, destroy, and even share. Synonymously think about how Git has changed the world of software development by being distributed and incredibly cheap and quick to do things that were not done in the past.

Technology advancements allow for newly revised workflows optimizing speed of integration between development versus production and allows for testing and accurate visibility.

This is a talk for administrators and developers.

James Wang

James Wang is the CEO and Principal Software Engineer of Slickage, a Honolulu based software engineering firm. He is also a co-founder of HI Capacity, a hackerspace in Honolulu formed in 2011. When hacking he enjoys the intricacies of large scale systems all the way up to the response times of beautiful user interfaces. When James is not coding he engages in competitive fighting games and competes in tournaments across the US.

The Hawaii VR group and HICAPACITY have released the first version of their Oculus Rift and Leap Motion enabled VR Demo Scene. Using a Leap Motion you can grab food objects and bring them to the camera for fun munching action. Press 2 to load the Oculus Rift enabled scene. The scene also features image based lighting using Marmoset SkyShop using an image of the actual HICAPACITY space in the Box Jelly.

We’ve also uploaded an android build of the scene so you can view the space on an android enabled mobile device.

For those of you without a Leap Motion or Oculus HIVR, we will be demoing this scene at the Honolulu Mini Maker Faire on March 15, 2014 at ‘Iolani School.
