Please RSVP on eventbrite: http://hicap-webattacks.eventbrite.com/

In this talk we’ll discuss the technologies used in web applications and the security attacks they are often vulnerable to. We’ll perform real attacks against vulnerable example programs that the audience can also attack to test their understanding as we go. Some basic understanding of HTML and Javascript will be assumed, but you do not need to be a web wizard to follow along.

Some of the topics we’ll be covering:

  • csrf
  • sql injection
  • session guessing / forging / altering

Please bring laptops if possible because part of the talk will be in an interactive workshop style. Since this is a public event there is no entrance fee. The speaker will be our own Tim Newsham.

Hello everybody! Sorry for the late post. We’re officially launching the T-shirt competition sponsored by moxie3innovations (@moxie3innovatio)

If you don’t know who or what we are, you may be unsure what kind of design you can make. We’re looking for something that demonstrates our personality.

We're a technology focused organization with a passion for making and inventing things. In essence, we're a bunch of geeks with a creative passion for technology. We would like to include this ideological 'maker' persona in the design. Something that can encapsulate our current logo or expand upon it with a maker/hacker style. Here's a Wikipedia article explaining what a Hackerspace to help you. Also, here's our About page so you can learn more about us.

Below are the rules of the competition. All members who paid early for their membership will get a t-shirt for free! Rules and procedures:

  • Size of the t-shirt design will need to be constrained to 14"x16". Please keep the image within these dimensions
  • A maximum of four colors can be used for the design. We may be screenprinting this design and it can get really expensive.
  • Submit your designs to matthew@hicapacity.org
    • Designs will be uploaded to Facebook for the first round of voting.
    • Designs will be uploaded at the end of the day, so submit your design early to get the most votes!
    • Vector images are requested if you made one but is not required.
  • This contest is open to the public and membership is not required.
  • Board members are not eligible to win prizes but are allowed to compete. The prize will go to the runner up if a board member wins.
    • Board members are not allowed to vote on their own entries during the final round
  • First round voting will take place on Facebook with the top 5 highest voted ('liked') entries pushed to the final round.
    • The final round will take the top 5 highest voted entries and choose the Grand Prize Winner and the Runner-up.
  • The Grand Prize will be an Amazon Kindle Fire, a t-shirt with the printed design and two free months of HI Capacity membership
  • The runner-up will receive two free months of HI Capacity membership
    • Previous membership is not required to redeem the prizes.
  • The t-shirts will be Asphalt and will look similar to the following: http://www.americanapparel.com/2001.html
  • The competition will end 2359 HST, 16JAN2012.*
  • Multiple submissions are allowed.*
  • Any amendments to rules will be posted to this thread or this post, and can be made at any time. Please bear with us, it's our first one! (Edits will have a red asterisk. *)

Good evening everyone! Unfortunately, I haven’t been unable to make it to a lot of events lately including tonight’s Kinect talk. (I heard it was packed though!) One of the things we’ve had planned for the past few weeks was Microcontroller Mondays. I haven’t been able to make it, so I don’t think a lot of you knew what it was or that it even existed. It’s a slight adaptation from other Maker/Hackerspaces, if you’ve been to one before. The idea behind our Microcontroller Mondays is that people show up with an electronics project they made, want to make or are currently in the process of making. On Mondays, it would be a hack night. Much like the programmers had a Saturday weekly meetup, this was intended for more of the hardware crowd to show off their projects and spread ideas. It’s also more than just a show and tell, it’s a hack night! We don’t discriminate against the types of microcontrollers you’d like to hack. Anything that’s cool and and exciting is welcome. Hell, even the uncool and boring is welcome. We’ve got tools such as soldering irons, helping hands, magnifying glasses. So you shouldn’t have to bring any large tools. Here’s a list of our tools: http://wiki.hicapacity.org/index.php?title=Wish_List

Starting this Monday (yes, Halloween!), we’ll be doing the (in)formal weekly meetup. I’m going to go buy a silly Halloween toy and try to hack it to do something cool. I haven’t found one yet, so let’s talk ideas. Maybe something like this? (http://hackaday.com/2011/10/27/crawling-zombie-is-shockingly-creepy/) I’m also going to bring candy because I love candy. And it’s Halloween, so I have an excuse to buy a bunch of it.

On Monday at 7PM at The Box Jelly, come join us and create something awesome!
