In this talk we’ll take a look at our journey to make our project, Snapzoom: the universal smartphone scope adapter, a reality. We’ll focus on how we developed our idea into prototypes with CAD and rapid prototyping 3D printers, and the importance of IP (patents and trademarks). We’ll also touch on how we created a successful Kickstarter project, the importance of social media and what production hurdles lie ahead of us.

Daniel Fujikake

Daniel is born and raised in Honolulu and is a full-time stay at home dad of twins. He loves spending time with his family, photography and surfing. His background in surfing and photography is what inspired the blend of the two, leading to the invention of Snapzoom

Virtual Reality is making a comeback. If you’ve ever wanted to be IN the game, fully immersed like never before, you’ll want to join HI Capacity and IGDA Honolulu for Hawaii VR Club’s First Meetup. The Oculus Rift is a new device that delivers a virtual reality experience that once cost thousands of dollars. We have two Oculus Rifts (and accompanying dev kits), and we’ll be demonstrating the technology for the local community. To further stoke interest in developers and designers for the new platform, we’ll have a pair of talks about the Oculus Rift, virtual reality, and how Hawaii developers have the opportunity to get involved early creating for this innovative hardware.

Ka'i Kau

Ka'i is a freelance graphic designer and web entrepreneur with a love for new and emerging technologies. He was an early backer of the Oculus Rift on Kickstarter and is interested in spurring local interest in VR. Ka'i enjoys robotics, starting clubs to bring people with like interests together, and producing music in his spare time.

Peter Justeson

Peter is an independent game developer whose previous work includes Tetris Battle & online virtual world Blue Mars. Peter also runs the Honolulu chapter of the IGDA, a community group that unites & supports game developers in Hawaii. In addition to games as pure entertainment, Peter has a strong interest in educational games that engage children in learning through play.

We’re glad to announce the first HI Capacity talk about Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency. The talk will cover an overview of bitcoin, what it is, and a short history.

Here is the agenda:

• Briefly cover what mining actually accomplishes. What are blocks, how does the network synchronize, proof-of-work.

• The History and Future of Bitcoin mining hardware, the progression from CPU to GPU, through FPGA to ASIC.

• Comparison between mining strategies, the differences between mining in a pool vs. solo mining.

• Demo of what mining looks like and how miners are managed

• Questions & Answers

The talk will be informal, with an emphasis on discussion about Bitcoin. The speaker is Ta'a Pyland. The talk will be held on June 18th at 7pm. The location is HI Capacity, which is located in the back of The Box Jelly (and to the left of Fishcake).
